In 2025, my psychologist recommended a form of therapy that I’d never even heard of before, much less had considered. That therapy was known as TMS. At the time, I was quite apprehensive because when I was told about it, and how it was used help re-wire the brain, my mind immediately went to electro-shock therapy.
At the time, I thought that perhaps I should document my experience. This was because I had never even heard of it, much less had heard of friends who had been through it – and googling it did very little to alleviate my worries as I found very little information from people who had been through it. I thought that perhaps I should document the process to help others who were as confused as I was. However, a ex-friend thought it was the dumbest idea they’d ever heard and that I was deluded to think that anyone would be interested in reading it. So, I didn’t.
As I type this, it’s been exactly one year since I undertook TMS, and when talking to someone else they expressed interest in reading about the journey. So, I decided to write about it. The process, the fears, the worries and how it felt – and how I feel, one year on, in 2026. This is my experience.
